State House staff construct bridge for Kiambu residents

State House staff reconstructed a dilapidated bridge in Juja, Kiambu County to enhance the navigation of the residents.

For a long time, the residents had pleaded with the State House Staff to reconstruct the bridge as the staff had been constructing houses in the area approximately worth Ksh. 400M.

According to one of the residents, the bridge had been neglected for many years. However, he managed to mobilise the staff to reconstruct it.

The resident said, "The staff and officials have been putting up houses in the area which is why I asked them to develop the area by constructing a bridge."

The resident said that he has been working closely with other government officials and the State House staff on the bridge project.

The bridge poor state dates back to 30 years.

People seeking urgent health services such as women In need of maternity services faced a huge challenge because the bridge was rendered impassable. Such women were forced to deliver at home.

"Getting to the hospital is a huge challenge, I had a tough time taking my father to the hospital. We used to carry him on our backs," another resident said.

Heavy rains made both the bridge and road impassible.

The challenges have also hit farmers who count major losses as their produce go bad when it rains heavily  and the bridge is submerged underwater.

The impassibility of the bridge forced
residents to use longer alternative routes.
