The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has continued with it's push for the dissolution of the 12th parliament with plans to protest at the assembly tomorrow.
At least 20 lawyers and political activists plan to participate in the protest to back Chief Justice David Maraga' advisory based on the Parliament's failure to uphold the two-thirds gender rule.
In a letter, LSK President Nelson Havi notified the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, speakers and clerks of the Senate and National Assembly regarding the planned protest.
Mr. Havi requested Mutyambai for security provision for the representatives that will participate in the protest.
In the letter, Mr. Havi wrote, “I refer to the advisory dated September 21, 2020, from the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya to the President of the Republic of Kenya. Parliament stands dissolved by operation of law on October 12, 2020, should the President of the Republic of Kenya have failed to dissolve it as advised by the Chief Justice.”
He further confirmed that the LSK and United Green Movement Kenya representatives will visit Parliament premises at 2.30 pm to coordinate with the modalities of the speakers regarding the area's security protocol.
The letter read in part, "Please make arrangements to host the representatives who will not be more than 20 in number."
The courts have already issued two injunctions on the president and CJ Maraga is to constitute judges to hear the matter after receiving the files.
The LSK boss, had also written to the Interior Ministry and the IG in the past, advising them to withdraw security details of MPs and Senators.
Yesterday, Police authorities said they will develop plans to manage the situation since they have already received information regarding the planned protest.
