Pride Inn Hotel Managing Director Hasnain Noorani has recommended MICE tourism as the best strategy towards the recovery of the hotel industry.
Calling stakeholders to invest in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), Mr. Noorani emphasized the exploration of all sub-sectors in tourism as a pragmatic approach in the sector's recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
MICE tourism is a specialised type that involves the planning, booking, and facilitation of conferences, seminars, and other events.
The PrideInn boss said, “MICE tourism is not only business related but contributes largely to leisure travel as when investors visit the country for conferences they might want to visit again for holiday."
He was speaking at PrideInn's virtual conferencing solution launch that focused addressing the issues that have arised in the hotel sector due to the measures taken to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The MD talked about the 'RevMeet' initiative which aims at enhancing the hotel's conferencing business during and after the pandemic.
The hotel has partnered with Microsoft and Safaricom to facilitate the product to enhance recovery in the hospitality industry trough MICE tourism.
“This product will be able to attract various meetings and conferences to our hotels thus increase occupancy levels in the hotel even from international guests,” added the PrideInn MD.
According to the Tourism Research Institute data, business tourism has been thriving in the country's tourism industry.
The institute's report shows that 13.5 per cent of the approximately 1.5 million international visitors who came into the country between January and September 2019 represents business tourists.
In support of MICE tourism, reports shows that
every international delegate spends at least Sh376,000 per conference trip of about three to six days.
The Ministry of Tourism mandated the Kenya National Convention Bureau (KNCB) in December 2019 to market Kenya as a top MICE destination.
According to KNCB, by 2022 Kenya should be listed in the top 50 MICE destination globally and at least top two in Africa as the entity will develop strategies to ensure this.
