A section of Mt Kenya leaders on Friday held a deliberations meeting at Thika Greens Resort, in what was described as a normal house keeping session, but one which political pundits term as the clearest signal yet, of preparations to chose President Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor as the region’s kingpin.
Details of the meeting, attended by most legislators from the vote rich region, remain scanty, as members of the press were not allowed in, though reliable sources indicate that, there was a unanimous decision unity was key as 2022 elections draw closer.
“All those present concurred that, there is an urgent need to have the entire region united, in order to be able to bargain for power in 2022,” the source who spoke on condition of anonymity told our team.
In the recent past, there has been a raging debate on who would take over the mantle from President Kenyatta as Mt Kenya’s spokesman, with numerous leaders jostling for the position.
The equation has further been complicated by Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid which has split the region between Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke factions.
It remains to be seen what the real outcomes of the meeting would be.
