Gichugu Constituency Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) returning official Geoffrey Gitobu died under unclear circumstances in Nanyuki town on Monday
Gitobu is said to have taken an off from work after supervising last weeks polls in Gichugu, Kirinyaga county to visit his family that lives in Nanyuki.
The 57-year-old official purportedly felt dizzy while he and his brother were driving inside the town so they went to a close by health facility, where the medics immediately called for an ambulance ,as his condition was serious. He was then hurriedly transferred to a nearby private hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Laikipia East sub-province police commander John Tarus who confirmed the incident said that the deceased was rushed to the hospital by his brother after mysteriously falling ill on Monday evening.
"At the point when Gitobu was pronounced dead at the medical facility, the brother reported the matter at Nanyuki police headquarters. Police are investigating circumstances surrounding Gitobu's death," Tarus told a local media station.
Tarus added that a postmortem examination will be undertaken to unravel the cause of death.
