Ex-Daystar director appointed CUE chief executive officer

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has appointed Mike Kuria to serve as the chief executive officer of the Commission for University Education(CUE).

Confirming the appointment, CUE Chairman Chacha Nyaigotti in a statement said Kuria will replace the Mwenda Ntarangwi whose term ends on September 4.

Prof Kuria will serve for a five-year term, which is renewable once. 

Kuria previously served as the director of the center for quality assurance at Daystar University.

“Kuria is a multi-skilled and versatile leader with extensive experience and expertise in quality assurance in higher education and beyond,” the statement read in part.

According to a notice by CUE, 15 candidates were shortlisted for the chief executive Position.

Among those shortlisted include Daystar University Vice Chancellor Laban Ayiro, Emily Achieng, Dismus Bulinda, Elizabeth Wangari, Everlyne Kisembe, Mike Kuria and Geoffrey Muluvi.

Others are Benedict Mwavu, Francis Gichuki, Grace Njoroge, Nathan Oyori, Maurice Oduor, Gilbert Opanga, Douglas Shitanda and Jackson Too.

Ntarangwi was appointed CEO assumed the role in 2017, for a five-year term.
