Roots party presidential candidate Prof George Wajackoyah has appointed Omar Lali as his party's National Coordinator of Beach Boys Association .
Lali's appointment was confirmed by Wajackoyah's running mate Justina Wamae.
In a lengthy post on her official social media handle , Wamae said that despite, beach boys being a huge part of Kenya's economy,they are often overlooked during the formation of new regimes even though they collectively hold a considerable number of votes that can swing an election in anyone's favour
"Beach boys spur up the tourism economy as they are guides offering lengthy tours of the coastline and the marine parks. Others sell African souvenirs such as Khangas, Maasai sandals and beadwork. Some of these traders display their wares along the sandy stretch," she said.
"Lali brings the beach boys vote who are many at times ignored in Kenya's development agenda. Roots party looks forward to this strategic partnership."
Lali shot to the limelight in July 2020 after he was accused of being behind the death of his then girlfriend and late Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai who reportedly fell to her demise in the bathroom of the house they shared in Lamu on May 3, 2020.
He was arrested and charged with murder after police and the prosecutor, banking on evidence gathered by investigators, said they were satisfied that the death was not accidental but was later released and set free after Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji dropped murder charges against him and instead an inquiry opened to probe the death of Ms Mungai.
