The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Political Party advisory panel tasked with selecting a suitable running mate for Raila Odinga has set Thursday May 5 as the deadline for submissions of nominees for the position.
Addressing the press on Wednesday moments after holding it's inaugural meeting, the panel of eminent persons also named Cabinet Minister Noah Wekesa as its chairperson.
The panel has also appointed Lawyer Paul Mwangi as the legal advisor.
“The committee shall only consider candidates who are members of the constituents party members of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance, ”Mr Wekesa said
The panel address comes at the heels of sharp criticism from several political leaders who include Deputy President William Ruto who termed the exercise by his political rivals as humiliation of Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s profile which he said is big for him to face a panel because he served as late President Mwai Kibaki’s Vice President.
Among those scheduled to be interviewed include NARC Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua, Narc Party Leader Charity Ngilu, former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth, Governors Ali Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.
