The High Court has released former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel on Sh100,000 cash bail.
Lempurkel was jailed for one year without an option of a fine for assaulting lawmaker Sarah Korere.
While making the ruling on Monday,Justice Justus Obwononga granted the ex-lawmaker bail pending his appeal on his conviction.
Lempurkel started serving his sentence on November 12, 2021, at the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.
In her ruling last month, Milimani Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani found the MP guilty of assaulting MP Sarah Korere in 2016.
While making her ruling, the Magistrate said the sentence will serve as an example to violent men who trample on women's rights with impunity.
Lempurkel was charged with slapping Ms. Korere at the office of the late Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry at Harambee House in Nairobi on November 21, 2021.
Ms. Korere is currently Laikipia North Member of Parliament.
