A man, Adan Ibrahim, has been jailed for life for defiling an 11-year-old girl in Mandera County.
He appeared before Mandera Senior Resident Magistrate Kimani Mukabi who delivered the verdict.
A report from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) clarified that the verdict was based on the evidence of two witnesses even though it was reported that a police file was missing.
The court heard that on the fateful day, the girl's mother had contracted Ibrahim to construct a food rack in her house and when she got back to the house, she found her daughter unconscious.
The report read, "The girl said the man had applied something on her nose before defiling her."
According to the prosecution which was led by State Counsel Patrick Onjoro, the accused had threatened the girl’s father and Ibrahim’s request for bond needed to be canceled.
In his ruling, Magistrate Mukabi pointed out that interference with prosecution witnesses in the county makes it difficult to prosecute sexual offences cases.
