The World Health Organization( WHO) said that it's director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus is running unopposed for a second five-year term.
Tedros 56, the first African to head the UN agency founded 70 years ago has steered the response to Covid-19, the worst public health crisis witnessed in a century.
"A single candidate was proposed by member states by the September 23, 2021 deadline: Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,” the WHO said in a statement on Friday.
Tedros was proposed by 28 countries including 16 European countries and three African countries including Kenya, Botswana and Rwanda.
Tedros a trained biologist who is also the first WHO Chief who is not a medical doctor. He was elected in May 2017.
