Lawyer Evans Monari dies at Nairobi Hospital

City-based lawyer Evans Monari who was part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's legal team at the International Criminal Court( ICC) has died.


Confirming the unfortunate news, his brother Ken Monari said the prominent lawyer died on Monday at the Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted following a long illness.

According to the family, he had been admitted to the facility's Intensive Care Unit where he was battling multiple complications.


President Uhuru Kenyatta led a host of leaders in mourning the departed lawyer who also represented him in the 2017 Presidential election petition at the Supreme Court.


In his message of condolences, the Head of State mourned Monari as a solid and dependable legal mind who leaves behind a rich legacy of professional  success.

“It is regrettable that we’ve lost Evans to the cruel hand of death after a long illness. He was one of our country’s leading lawyers who distinguished himself as a dependable resource as seen from his successes,” the President mourned.


The departed lawyer who was a member of the 2016 Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission selection panel, also represented former Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura and former Police Commissioner Hussein Ali at the ICC.
