Kenya receives second batch of J&J Covid-19 vaccines

Kenya has received 252,000 Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

The second batch of the vaccine which was acquired via the African Vaccine Acquisition Taskforce ( AVAT) landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday and was received by ministry of health officials led by Dr Willis Akhwale , the chairman of the Covid-19 vaccine task force.

" Today with this delivery we 389, 600 doses of the 13 M that we are expecting, we are hoping to receive more doses of J&J,” Dr. Akhwale said on Wednesday. 

“We have recommended  it be deployed in hard to reach areas where they can have difficulty  in coming for the second dose,” 


The country had last month received 141,600 J&J vaccines. The single-shot vaccines according to the health ministry will accelerate the number of those fully vaccinated.


So far, 4 million doses have been administered in the country .
