Kenya has recorded 74 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 3,987 tested, pushing the cumulative confirmed cases to 252,033, while the positivity rate is 1.9%.
From the new cases, 54 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners and 44 are males and 30 are females.
The youngest is a seven-year-old child and the oldest is 101 years.
According to the Ministry of Health, the total recoveries stand at 245,254 as 76 new patients recovered from the coronavirus disease.
From the new recoveries, 60 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 16 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide.
Sadly, 8 patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the death toll to 5,223.
One of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, while the other 7 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in October 2021.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said, “A total of 590 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,556 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.”
“34 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 21 of whom are on ventilatory support and 13 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation,” he added.
Another 177 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with all of them being in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Units (HDU).
So far, a total of 4,500,179 vaccines have been administered across the country as of October 16, 2021. Of these, 3,291,192 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,208,987.
