Willie Kimani murder: Four Police officers, a civilian have a case to answer

Five people accused in the murder of city lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri have been put on their defense after the High Court in Nairobi ruled that they have a case to answer.

Lady Justice Jessie Lessit on Monday ruled that the prosecution has established a case against the five among them, four Administration Police officers  ( APs) and a police informant

The APs Fredrick Leliman, Sylvia Wanjiku, Stephen Cheburet, and Leonard Mwangi are charged alongside Peter Ngugi, a police informant.

“I have considered the entire evidence and having done so I have come to the conclusion that the prosecution has established a prima facie case,” ruled Justice Lesit

The five will now defend themselves before the court makes its final verdict on a case that has dragged for years and the recent accession of Justice Lessit to the Appellate Court had threatened to delay further.

Willie Kimani was murdered alongside his client Mwenda and taxi driver Muiruri in 2016.

Their decomposing bodies were found at River Oldonyo Sabuk one week after their deissaperence.

Since 2016, at least 46 prosecution witnesses have testified on the case.

The defense hearing  will kick off on Monday, September 27 with the five expected to call their witnesses.
