Balala: I have no intentions of contesting for any elective position

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has broken his silence on his  intentions of contesting for an elective seat.

Balala while reacting to a report carried out by a local daily,  said he will not be vying for any political seat come 2022 General Elections but will instead continue to dispense his duties as a CS.

"My attention has been drawn to the recent media reports including in today’s Standard Newspaper’s headline story alleging that I will soon be resigning my present position as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, to vie for an unspecified political office in the 2022 general elections,” he said.

“For avoidance of doubt, I want to categorically state that my focus is to continue to serve the country in my current position as Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife and that I have no plans to vie for any elective position anywhere in Kenya.”

According to the report by the media outlet, close to half of President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet will be out of office by February next year and will be seeking  elective positions.

Among CS's  alleged to be eyeing political seats include Mutahi Kagwe(Health), Fred Matiang'I,( Interior) Sicily Kariuki(Water) and  Charles Keter(Energy)

In 2013 general election, Balala unsuccessfully vied for the Mombasa Senatorial Seat on his Republican Congress party (RC).
