The hearing of a murder case against Governor Okoth Obado and his two aides has kicked off.
Governor Obado, his personal assistant Michael Oyaro and Casper Obiero are accused of the murder of University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby on Spetember 3, 2018.
The trial began on Monday 12, 2021 before presiding Judge Cecilia Githua.
During the day one hearing, Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor took to the witness stand to testify against the county boss.
In his submission, Oduor said the deceased had seven stab wounds and two slash wounds.
There was muscle bleeding on the left side of the neck and muscle was detached from the attachment on the bone,” he said.
“Bleeding seen on the root of the tongue and right lung had collapsed.”
Dr Oduor further noted that there were also stab wounds on Sharon's lower abdomen and her intestines were sticking out.
“There were stab wounds on her back; mid-back, right and left lower back. Multiple aberrations on the back, neck, upper chest, shoulder, flank and upper and lower limbs.”
Last week, Obado through his legal team led by Kioko Kilukumi, Tom Ojienda, and Elisha Ongoya had asked the court to postpone the trial due to coronavirus pandemic.
In their argument, the defense lawyers said the suspect resides in Migori now a COVID-19 hotspot, the court however dismissed their application.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has lined up 34 witnesses to testify against the trio.
