Two armed robbers were shot dead by police officers on Thursday night and the officers managed to rescue a 57-year-old pastor who had been kidnapped by the armed gangs.
As he drove home in his car, a white Nissan Advan, John Dinguri Chege, a pastor at Kabete Anglican Church was hijacked at 8 pm by four armed men.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects kidnapped Chege and took control of his vehicle before they commandeered towards Kiamumbi, in Kiambu county.
In a statement, DCI said, “When Police officers got wind of the incident, they immediately pursued the suspects while a separate team laid an ambush along Kamiti road.”
According to police, the suspects defied an order to surrender after the vehicle was intercepted past the Jacaranda area and a fierce shootout that left two of the thugs dead ensued.
Two other people were seriously injured in the operation.
“Two other suspects managed to disappear in the dead of the night with gunshot wounds, leaving the badly shaken Church Minister in the safety of our officers,” DCI added.
Police recovered a Smith and Wesson pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm calibre and a knife from suspects.
Currently, a manhunt for the two suspects who disappeared is underway.
