President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday lifted the cessation of movement order in zoned areas of Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Nakuru and Kiambu effective midnight May 1st.
Speaking at State House Nairobi during the Labour Day celebrations, the Head of State noted that the move to lift the restriction was informed by the decrease by close to 74 per cent of coronavirus infections in the zoned areas
" When i issued the second public order in 2021 in March, announcing the containment measures our Covid-19 caseload in Nairobi was 56,815," Uhuru said.
" This caseload has now gone down to below 15,000 for the month of April signifying 74%."
President Kenyatta also revised the curfew hours stating that curfew will now begin at 10 pm to 4 am
The ban on in-person worship has been lifted with now the government directing places of worship to follow the Ministry of Health guidelines while maintaining a one-third capacity.
Eateries and bars have also been given the green light to reopen in accordance to the health ministry's protocols.
All bars across the country will however be required to close their doors at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, the ban on political gatherings hasn't been vacated.
