A tragic accident that occured on Saturday, May 8, on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway claimed the lives of five family members.
According to Coast traffic regional commandant Peter Maina, the car the five family members were in collided with a truck at Taru area.
Four other people were injured in the accident and were rushed to the hospital, police added.
A day before, another accident that killed five people and left several others seriously injured occured along the Kilifi-Mombasa highway.
There was a head-on collision between a trailer and a hearse, leaving two people dead on the spot.
Three others succumbed to injuries at the Mariakani hospital, Police Boss Ezekiel Chepkwony stated.
According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), every year, approximately 3,000 Kenyans die from road accidents.
Most accidents are linked to human-related factors such as speeding, reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, failure to use helmets among others, a recent report revealed.
