Somalia Parliament has extended its mandate and that of President Mohamad Farmaajo by two years.
The decision was arrived at on Monday after 149 MPs voted in support of the motion to extend the President's tenure while 3 voted against, one MP abstained from voting.
The Lower House usually has 275 members .
President Farmaajo lauded the decision stating it will correct the persisting disagreement on the election model, the move is however likely to elicit opposition from the international community.
The MPs say the extension of the mandate for the president will provide enough time for universal suffrage.
