MT Kenya TV suspended for airing explicit content

 The Communication Authority of Kenya has suspended vernacular station MT Kenya TV for four weeks for reportedly violating programme standards .


CA in a statement on Wednesday said the station on April 19, 2021, at 2  pm aired an animated cartoon titled' Free Jimmy' during its Mucii Wa Ciina ( home for children) show which airs during the watershed period content with scenes containing sexual as well as drug abuse, robbery and violence.

The state agency stated that MT Kenya TV had been found in breach of Kenya Information and Communication regulations of 2019 which prohibits presenting sexual matter in an explicit and offensive manner.


According to CA, MT Kenya TV attributed the violation to content mix-up in the control room but failed to explain how an Iffensive content and one that had not been rated by Kenya Film and Classification Board (of)




It also fined the TV station of Ksh 500,000 for repeating  the same violation.
