The government has stated that the 10pm-4am nationwide curfew and the ban on public gatherings will run until May 29, 2021.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i stated that the extension includes the current 8pm-4am curfew which applies in the five disease infected zones of Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos and Nakuru.
The gazette notice reads, “There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of the curfew except as shall be permitted, in writing, by a police officer in charge of the police in a county or a police officer in charge of the police in a division/sub-county.”
However, the CS said that essential service personnel are exempted from the orders.
The essential service in this regard include the Medical professionals and health workers, National security officers, Government administration officers, Licensed pharmaceuticals companies, pharmacies and drug stores, Licensed broadcasters and media houses, Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya Airports Authority and Licensed Civil Aviation Service Providers.
Others are the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Kenya Ports Authority and Licensed Sea and Port Operators, Kenya Maritime Authority and Licensed Maritime Service Providers, Power production and distribution companies, Kenya Railways Corporation, Kenya Pipeline Company.
Water and sanitation service providers, Food and farm produce processors, distributors, dealers, wholesalers and transporters, Licensed supermarkets, minimarkets and hypermarkets, Licensed distributors and retailers of petroleum and oil products and lubricants and Licensed telecommunications operators and service providers.
Licensed banks, financial institutions and payment service providers, Fire brigade and emergency response services, Licensed security firms, Postal and courier services, Factory and construction workers, Cargo transporters, Children protection service providers, Operators of safe shelters and safe spaces for sexual and gender-based violence survivors and Advocates of the High Court of Kenya are also part of the list.
