Kuresoi residents protest over insecurity in the area

Kuresoi residents barricaded the busy Olenguruone-Molo road, protesting insecurity in Keringet Centre, Kuresoi Constituency.

On Tuesday morning, a man suspected to have killed a fellow village mate was found drinking at a local pub in the township and this instigated the trouble.

Allegedly, the suspect who poses as a security guard at one of the local pubs murdered a 31-year-old man on Monday night.

Police lobbed tear-gas canisters and shot in the air to disperse the angry Kuresoi residents who were throwing stones and livhting bonfires on the road.

The chaos led to the closing of businesses at the town.

Most vehicles had to look for alternative routes as the protesters used heavy boulders to block the busy road.

They uprooted a billboard belonging to Keringet Police Station and stoned a police vehicle ferrying the suspect.

One of the locals, Stephen Cheruiyot, said, "The officers here have become complacent, some of the own bars which remain open throughout the day despite the despite the curfew."

According to him, the suspect was found in one of the pubs with blood-stained clothes and the police managed to save him from the enraged locals.
