The Salaries and Remuneration Commission advisory on teachers' new salary deal has forced the Kenya National Union of Teachers ( KNUT) to withdraw a two-week strike notice it had issued earlier in the week.
In a letter addressed to Teachers Service Commission, KNUT Secretary General and nominated MP Wilson Sossion said.
" Note that we had already registered a trade dispute with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Labour. However, based on the commission’s response citing the process of concluding internal consultations with SRC, we hereby withdraw our letter to the CS and urge that you give strict and clear timelines of undertaking the salary negotiations.”
The Union's move paves the way for smooth running of national examinations that are set to kick off in 18 days.
SRC advisory will be crucial in the negotiation of the 2021-2023 CBA.
