Govt' extends e-passport migration deadline



The government has extended the deadline for migrating to the e-passport by another 10 months following disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.


In a statement, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'I on Thursday said starting January 1st , 2022 the old dark blue passport will be null and void.


" Starting January 1,2022 the old dark blue passport will be null and void and no Kenyan would be able to travel internationally without a Valid  East Africa  biometric passport ,"


According to the CS, this would be the last extension.


"To make up for the service disruption, i have extended the deadline for replacing the old passport by a further 10 months,” he stated.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, this is the last extension, and Kenyans are advised to make the necessary arrangements and acquire the electronic passports at the earliest opportunity possible to avoid travel inconveniencies.”




Kenya has been phasing the old geñeration passport since last year.
