BBI campaigs to kick off in Mombasa

President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired a meeting of seven political parties’ leaders at State House on Thursday to discuss a roadmap for the referendum campaigns and it was agreed that the first BBI campaign will be in Mombasa.

After campaigning at the Kenyan Coast, the BBI train will then head to Western Kenya.

The leaders in the meeting included Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Charity Ngilu, Gideon Moi, and Moses Wetangula.

According to BBI Secretariat co-chair Junet Mohammed, the BBI team has a clear roadmap that will see them reach out to every Kenyan in their place of work. His team is in the process of identifying senior politicians to spearhead regional campaigns

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga believe that the referendum can be in May and not June as had earlier been projected since the Bill is expected to face zero hurdles both at the national assembly and Senate where it will be discussed from next week.

On March 9, the leaders will hold a consultative meeting with MPs and County leadership.

BBI proponents are determined to drum up support for the BBI Bill ahead of the referendum.
