Former Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings was on Wednesday laid to rest at the country's military cemetery after a burial service at Ghana's Independence Square.
In his tribute, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo described the fallen leader as charismatic, energetic and fearless.
"It is for good reason that his well-known and often-cited ideals of probity and accountability, in which he invested a great deal of his political life, are enshrined in the fourth Republican constitution,” said Akufo-Addo.
The former President body has been lying in state at the Accra International Conference Center since Monday.
Rawlings was to be laid to rest on December 23rd, 2020 but the burial was cà lled off with the Foreign Affairs Ministry citing ' unforeseen circumstances'
The former President ruled for two decades first as a military ruler and then as an elected President
Rawlings died on November 12th, 2020 after a short illness.
