Kibicho heads to DCI following Sonko's allegations of election chaos

Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has gone to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters to record a statement regarding election claims made by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Speaking at a rally in Dagoretti South on Sunday, January 24, 2021, Sonko alleged that he along with Kibicho and other state officials were behind some of the chaos that occurred in the country during the 2017 general election.

He alleged that he was involved in the planning of the chaos to portray the ODM Party as the culprits.

"The deep state and system have started burning vehicles so that hustlers can be blamed for the chaos," Sonko remarked.

He further warned against blaming the chaos on the 'hustlers' in the country.

Investigations into the matter will be launched after Kibicho records a statement with the DCI to
substantiate the allegations made by the former Nairobi Governor.

According to Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi, Sonko's utterances at the rally have
legal consequences on Interior PS Kibicho as he is a state-appointed official accused of instigating hooliganism.

Havi added that if a case is to be preferred against Kibicho, Sonko will become a witness since he is a politician and politicians are customarily associated with hooliganism.

However, according to a law researcher, Emmanuel Omurunga, the Statute of Limitations would be the basis of the dismissal of Sonko's utterances incriminating Kibicho.
