Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti has deployed a special trained team to fight land cartels.
Kinoti disclosed that the 26 new detectives would join the Land Fraud Investigations Unit in an exercise that is part of the Ministry of Land reforms.
According to the DCI, the officers are well trained with a background experience in land survey, land economics, land physical planning and administration among other relevant fields.
The new team is mandated with aiding the unit in professionally handling complex land grabbing cases, Kinoti added during the unveiling.
“The Director DCI has sanctioned far reaching reforms in the Land Fraud Investigations Unit.
In part of the changes made Tuesday, a total of 26 detectives with professional background in land survey, land economics, land physical planning and administration among other relevant fields have been deployed in the unit,” he stated.
The DCI confirmed that the successful applicants went through a strict vetting process before approval.
He added, “They will enhance the unit’s capacity to investigate land cases expeditiously and advice on the appropriate legal action to be taken.”
A planned roll out of the new lands digital migration program that will see many title deeds cancelled will follow the DCI's development.
Fresh title deeds that comply with the lands Registration Act, 2012 will replace the cancelled ones.
A press release from Lands CS Farida Karoney stated that the Land Registration Act 2012 would solve the confusion occasioned by the different laws that facilitated fraud and other issues.
