The Senate has convened a special sitting slated for Wednesday whose agenda will be to discuss Governor Mike Sonko’s impeachment.
The Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kangata on Sunday said he had secured enough signatures to convene the sitting, saying the process will be free and fair.In the meantime, Governor Sonko has made it clear that he intends to move to court on Monday to challenge his ouster, challenging its legality.
Senator Kangata who was tasked with collecting the signatures said all was set for the sitting on Wednesday- having collected at least 15 signatures.
There are already two camps pitted against each other on the impeachment: the pro-handshake team accusing the Governor of undermining his boss-President Kenyatta and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.
The second group comprising Ruto allies has rallied their support for the embattled Governor, saying he is a casualty of standing against the system.
