Form Four students at Lugulu Girls’ High School in Webuye, Bungoma County on Tuesday morning (December 8) took to the streets to protest the alleged defilement of their 16-year-old schoolmate.
The learners alleged that on Saturday 4:45am, one of them, who was taking a shower in the students’ bathroom, was almost defiled by an unknown male person.
“The girl, who was on the verge of being sexually assaulted, raised the alarm, forcing the suspect to flee,” the girls said in a statement filed at the Webuye Police Station.
The KCSE candidates claim they informed the school’s administration on Saturday morning, but no action was taken.
“It is that grievance that led to today’s incident (protests),” says the police report.
Lugulu Girls’ High School Principal, Dina Cheruiyot, on Monday night (December 7) filed a report at the Webuye Police Station that the girls “were screaming and making a lot of noise [while] demanding to be addressed by the Ministry of Education officials [in Bungoma County]”.
