100-year-old Mugumo now a beautiful Christmas tree in Nairobi

Mugumo tree that 'refused' to pave way for road construction, is now a beautiful Christmas tree along Waiyaki Way, in Westlands Nairobi. 

The century-old Fig Tree was lit by President Uhuru Kenyatta, as a declaration for the conservation of the iconic tree.

The iconic tree has now been adopted by the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) and is being conserved as a beacon of Kenya's cultural and ecological heritage.

President Uhuru assured of Government's commitment to restore Nairobi's lost glory, like the 'Green City in the Sun'.
