Will military be the answer?

The President's move to involve the military in running of government entities and parastatals has continued to draw mixed reactions.

The creation of the  Nairobi Metropolitan Services and the subsequent appointment of Major General Mohammed Badi to head it , the transfer of  Kenya Meat Commission from of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to the Minsitry of Defence and the most recently placing of aircraft owned by state agencies under the military has been widely criticised with the majority of senators in a recent sitting likening the move to militarization.

"It's quite unfortunate that we are taking such a great parastatal that has been assisting our farmers to the Defence Forces without any legal framework. The millitary does not have the talent and management skills that can replace going out to look for better managers" Nominated Senator Alice Milgo said.

"I do not understand how parastatals gets transfered to our military. The idea of militarazing institutions should stop. There must be proper public participation" Mandera Senator Mohamed Mahamud said.

Preferably, democratic governments should be run by Civilians, whereby, even the military is under civilian control.
All the duties, obligations and responsibilities are offered to the Military by civilian leaders.

The Military has some form of internal autonomy where their roles are well stipulated so that they do not have to lap the realm of  public policy and social life.

The war of corruption in our country has been a thorn in the flesh, therefore, Kenyans have requested the President to resolute action against it.

If the decision of using Millitary to run operations in the entities will help in the fight against corruption , then its the best decision which should be embraced in all struggling and corrupt ridden parastatals and state agencies.
