Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i has declared Saturday, October 10th a public holiday.
In a press release on Friday, Dr Matiang'I said the holiday named Huduma Day would be observed through national prayer that will highlight service and volunteerism to the community.
" Kenyans are encouraged to participate in the prayer and promote national unity, social justice, cohesion and sustainable development in their communities for the benefit of present and future generations," he said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to lead the nation in an inter-faith prayer service on Saturday.
The prayer service will take place at State House, Nairobi starting at 10 am and will be broadcasted live on all local television, radio stations and digital media platforms
Last year the Cabinet approved the renaming of Moi Day to Huduma Day.
State House said the renaming of the public holiday is in " line with former President Daniel Arap Moi's desire that the day be marked as a day of service and volunteerism, "
