Man kidnapped from hospital, killed over suspected theft

A hospitalized man in Kimbimbi Sub-county hospital was abducted from the facility by a mob that killed and burnt him on Saturday October 24 over suspected theft of motorcycles.

Reports indicate that the mob dragged the man from his hospital bed and took him to Kwa Kariba area where they lynched him.

According to Kirinyaga East DCIO Millicent Ochuka, the deceased was "suspected to be behind the theft of five motorcycles."

Before the incident, the man was receiving treatment at the hospital for the severe injuries he sustained after a mob beat him on Thursday night on the same allegations.

DCIO Ochuka added, "What we have gathered is that he was beaten then compelled to confess to bodaboda riders on where he hid the stolen bikes. He was later freed and taken to hospital for treatment."

The riders were disappointed not to find the motorbikes from the place to which the man had directed them.

Therefore, they reorganized themselves and went  back to the hospital to abduct him and take him to another place where they could kill and burn him.

Ochuka said that it is possible that the mob overpowered the hospital's security guards and proceeded with their plan.

According to her, there are no reports from the hospital regarding the patient's abduction.

The DCIO asserted, "We will seek information from the hospital to establish if indeed he (suspect) was forcefully taken from the facility so we can get his identity."
