Reports of lockdown and more measures to contain the rapid spread of corona virus are being reported. This is after Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe spoke during a presser outside Kenyatta National Hospital on Saturday.
The CS is said to be considering introducing new stricter measures to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 infections.
Sources close to the health ministry and the CS revealed that he has called for an urgent meeting of the National Emergency Response Committee. This meeting is to take place on Sunday, October 18 to brainstorm on how to curb the rising number of cases.During the meeting, he is expected to recommend several restrictions to President Uhuru Kenyatta. The president has always maintained that another lock down will immediately set in place, should the situation get worse.
In the last week, 2,034 have tested positive, with Friday’s positivity rate increasing to 10%.
“I will not hesitate to escalate containment measures in the event any of these indicators register on my dashboard,” President Kenyatta had warned.
