Mombasa Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Hassan Joho has refuted reports regarding his resignation from the party, calling the claim as fake news.
On Thursday, October 15, 2020, a resignation letter purpoted to have been written by the county boss went viral on social media for the most part of the evening.
The letter which was addressed to ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga left Kenyans astonished as it had an ODM letter head and a signature similar to Joho's, making it almost believable.
The letter read in part, "I believe during my tenure I served you and the party members diligently including organising for campaigns in different parts of the country including catering for expenses even as the party was experiencing tough economic times."
"It has been a learning experience for me and I do hereby tender my resignation as your deputy with a hope that you will give the youth another chance and also encourage divergent voices in how operation and relations in your party are carried."
Joho dismissed the letter and the claims in it as fake news, thereby emphasizing the party's unity.
He responded to the letter image on social media with a caption that read," The party is strong." ODM also responded by blaming detractors for developing such fake news.
Joho is quite valuable to the party because of his strong influence in the coastal region where he has garnered huge support for Raila in the
in the last three general elections.
In various occasions, the governor has hinted on his desire to run for the presidency in 2022.
