Reputable Chinese telecom company, Huawei, can proceed with its service to European 5G network clients, even though it faces a huge challenge trying to counter US sanctions, which aim at blocking it from semiconductors.
In an interview with an Austrian newspaper,
a senior European executive said that the telecom company will be able to provide services for European 5G clients.
The US government banned Google from providing technical support for new models of the Huawei phone using the Android mobile operating system.
Since then, the famous mobile telecommunications equipment manufacturing company has been trying to find a solution to help millions of Huawei phone users.
The Huawei's vice president for Europe, Abraham Liu, said, “Since the US sanctions last year, US manufacturers of semiconductors are no longer allowed to supply us so our previous US partners can no longer work with us. Since August it has become even more difficult.”
In his interview the Kurier paper, Mr. Liu added that, through 'blackmail,' Washington was forcing chipmakers to shun ties with Huawei.
US made allegations against Huawei that Beijing could use company's equipment for spying purposes. The telecommunications company has denied those allegations.
“Nevertheless, we are confident that we can continue to serve our European customers in the 5G sector because of many preparations and upfront investments with the most advanced technology,” Liu further noted.
He added, "As for private customers, cell phone owners, we see great difficulties. There are 90 million European Huawei users. Google is no longer allowed to work with Huawei, so Google will no longer publish updates for Huawei smartphones with the Android operating system. We are still looking for a solution.”
However, according to analysts, European operators are likely to eliminate Huawei from their
networks, because of the EU members' high scrutiny of high-risk vendors.
In this context, Huawei will be subjected to the critical examination of its technology and governance.
