Mojo's Club in Nairobi CBD along Banda Street, off Kimathi Street has been demolished.
The popular club was a convenient entertainment joint for many people, including journalists.
Radio Africa Group Digital Editor Oliver Mathenge remarked, “We had good times here.”
“People are avoiding the CBD. With curfews, people are considering convenience and that's why clubs are moving closer to estates,” a Nairobi resident commented.
After the closure of Club Tribeka, Mojo’s remained as the only entertainment lounge in the area.
However, when the government ordered bars to close last year, it was initially shut down. The club did not resume operations even after the measures were relaxed and there was no furniture and equipment in the premises.
The pandemic has brought significant losses to bars, restaurants, and hotels, according to the Bars, Hotels and Liquor Traders Association of Kenya.
Reportedly, estate clubs, wines & spirits and house parties are posing stiff competition to clubs in the CBD and other popular areas.
Nevertheless, they also face a risk of being shut down over noise pollution in neighbourhoods.
