Kenyans come to the aid of man framed for defiling daughter

Kenyans have shown compassion by offering aid to Julius Wambua who was recently released from the Kamiti Maximum Prison after a court declared his life sentence invalid.

After the release, Wambua spoke frankly about him lacking a place to call home and his struggles in resettling in the community.

He said, "Circumstances have forced me to start life afresh. I am a free man, but I lost everything when I went to jail. I have no land or home."

Wambua that he had been seeking shelter at his younger brother's house in Nairobi.

"I am concerned about where I am going to get a place to live," the 56-year-old added.

The life sentence was invalidated because it was proven that Wambua was framed for defiling his daughter.

A 2019 feature by Citizen TV anchor Lulu Hassan aired in a series titled Prison Diaries brought his story to light.

Dorcas Mwende, Wambua's daughter confessed that her mother coerced her to frame him.

She recanted her original testimonies in the submissions she filed at the Machakos High Court.

Justice Odunga ruled in favor of a retrial of the case as he noted that it had garnered considerable public interest.
