NTSA suspend driving license of rogue matatu drivers

The National Transport and Safety Authority has suspended driving licenses of nine matatu drivers who have been driving recklessly and endangering the lives of passengers and pedestrians.

According to the authority, a media report regarding Super Metro Ltd, Triple S Co. Ltd, Manmo Sacco, Baba Dogo 25 Sacco, Sony Classic Co. Ltd and Metro Trans Co.Ltd vehicles prompted the action.

NTSA summoned officials from the named saccos to present themselves and discuss various concerns of road safety including the violations of traffic rules.

It suspended driving licenses and PSV licenses of the drivers  after deliberating with the aacco officials.

The axed drivers must also undergo a driver re-test at the Likoni Road Driving Testing Centre so that their driving suitability can be confirmed before the authority reinstates their licenses.

The mentioned operators are required to present a percentage of their fleet for compliance inspection at the same centre within seven days.

NTSA also directed the operators to provide the drivers with various policy documents about the management of driver/conductor discipline and other measures of road safety.

Through its facilitation, the authority will ensure that all drivers and conductors of the 6 operators undergo road safety awareness training within the said period.
